Saving Sweaters From Pilling
With fall around the corner, I recently took out all my sweaters from last year. In taking inventory of what I have to work with in the coming months, I realized that a lot of my sweaters were looking a little worse for the wear. They had started to pill. Yikes!
We’ve all fallen in love with a sweater, only to later see the dreaded pilling. Why, oh why must beautiful fabrics pill? Until now, I’ve just suffered the fuzzies, or if I got really frustrated, I’d take a pair of scissors to the pilling (which never really worked and sometimes ended in tragedy). Well, I found the solution: a fabric shaver.
I had no idea something like this existed. Maybe I’ve just been living in the dark ages. Luckily, I’ve found the light:

When run over the fabric, this handy little device trims off all the pilling. I tried it on a few different sweaters, and the results were very impressive.
For example, I used it on this Halogen cashmere sweater. Here is what it looked like before:

And here is what it looked like after I tested it on part of the sweater:

I was very impressed with the results. It took me about 20 minutes to go over the whole sweater, and now it looks brand new. More still, the shaver only costs $15, which is far less than I would have paid to replace this sweater. Now I’m ready to rock all my cozy sweaters this fall without feeling like I’m molting.
Fuzzies, be gone!
