Review of the Louis Vuitton Favorite MM

I’ve spent the last year with my Louis Vuitton Favorite MM in damier ebene. She’s come with me on numerous vacations, wasted away hours at Nordstrom, and spent many Sundays at brunch. On these adventures, I’ve gotten to know the Favorite enough for a quick review. I’ll walk you through the pros and cons, and then I’ll explain why I think, all things considered, the Favorite is a good buy.

Here’s a quick pic of my handbag and what I carried around in it this last weekend:

Louis Vuitton Favorite MM.

Pros:

  • It fits a surprising amount. As you can see in the picture, I can fit a Chanel pouch, Chanel card case, blotting papers, iPhone 7, and sunglasses. I can even squeeze in my Louis Vuitton key cley too.
  • It is very comfortable to wear. I tend to wear it with the long strap on my shoulder, but it also works really well crossbody. (I just generally prefer shoulder bags.) The strap never digs in or gets uncomfortable.
  • It is subtle. I like to use this bag when I travel because I don’t think it stands out too much.
  • It is easy to style. I haven’t ever had trouble building it into outfits. Here’s just one quick example of how I’ve styled it:image199
  • It is versatile. You can wear the bag multiple ways. It works as a clutch (take off the strap and tuck in the chain), a short shoulder bag with the gold chain (which is great for hanging it on those hooks under bars), or a shoulder/crossbody with the longer strap. If you have the Pochette Felicie, you can use the gold chain on this bag too.
  • The interior is gorgeous. I love the red interior. (But see below for a con related to the red interior.)
  • The magnet. The bag is super easy to get in and out of, which makes it great for shopping and traveling (see below for why this is also a con).
  • The price. For a designer handbag, the price is actually pretty darn good.

Cons:

  • The wear and tear isn’t great. I haven’t been super impressed with the wear and tear. I love that the canvas has started to soften over time, but that has also come with some annoying creasing/waving on the front. You can’t really see it in the picture, but in certain light, there’s a faint crease that runs across where the magnet is hidden. Ugh.
  • The shoulder strap length. I know I said this was a pro (which it is), but for really tall gals, I’ll warn you that the strap is a little on the shorter side. I’m 5’7″, and when I wear it crossbody, it hits right on the top of my bum. When I switch out the strap for the chain from the Pochette Felicie, it lands a bit lower down on my hip.
  • How the long strap attaches. Another annoying thing is that the strap doesn’t have two clasps. Instead, it has one clasp and that stupid threading thing Louis Vuitton does on some of its bags. I have no idea why they do this (okay, obviously to save money), but it drives me nuts. Just add another damn clasp.
  • The red interior can cause color transfer. As with all Louis Vuitton bags that have the red interior, you can get color transfer on lighter SLGs. I used a damier azur SLG in the Favorite and ended up with some pink color transfer (*crying*).
  • The magnet might not be ideal. The bag is super easy to get in and out of, which isn’t great if you’re using the bag where pickpockets thrive (see above for why this ease of use can also be a pro, though).
  • The hardware sucks. The gold plate on the front scratches soooo easily. I feel like if I look at it wrong, it scratches:

Scratches on the hardware.
  • It is hard to track down. I have added this as a con because I find it annoying when I decide that I want to purchase a handbag only to discover it is impossible to find.

Conclusion: On a scale of great, good, average, or terrible, I’d say the Favorite MM is a good buy. To be honest, I’m not totally sure whether I would repurchase, though. I think I’ll give the bag another year to see how the wear and tear continues. If the wear has stabilized, I’ll probably keep it in my collection. If it gets worse, I might sell the Favorite on to a new home. Even if I end up selling it, I’m still very happy with the time I’ve spent with the Favorite. Hope this helps!

  1. My friend got a brand new LV purse because the sales guy at Saks didn’t like the way her purse was wearing down. He said to her “Louis Vuitton would not like you to be walking around with your purse looking like that” 😳. True story
